Disability friendly equipment: handrail, mobility scooter, ramps…and much more

Disability is debilitating. Thanks to the modern science and the continued research in the development of newer products, the dysfunctionality arising out of disability can be removed to a great extent. People face many types of disability like that of the limbs, nerves, sight, audibility or any other. This puts a person out of gear with the normal way of life, creating a lot of frustration and even depression due to the state of helplessness and dependency that disability can cause. If the modern products, designed for some special needs of the people for meeting their daily life requirements to a great extent can be developed, then the disability can be made a non-issue to a large extent. Things like mobility scooter, grab rail, handrail or even the ramps are some of the devices which can be of considerable help to the disable. These devices could be purely mechanical in nature or these can even be electronic. Further, these could be made of metals or composites and designed as per the usage requirements.

A mobility scooter is used for moving around, by people who are not able to move from one place to another. Additional functions might include the ability to control direction of movement, adjustable seats and handles, provision for keeping some of articles like glasses, plates, etc. There are many designs depending upon the usage it is likely to be put to. Using these mobility scooters, the disable person need not confine himself to the bed but move around the home or even venture outside for living life as close to normal as is possible.

Similarly, for the common everyday use of the people with problems in movements, there are aids to movements which can be used for walking. There might also be a need to take the support of something for moving around. This support which is especially helpful in the washrooms, is that of the hand rails and the grab rails which can be used for holding on and moving around. These had rails or grab rails can either be fixed at suitable places which are frequently used by the disable or these can even be had in the portable form with suction support on their ends. The portable ones are not affixed permanently on some wall or other place. Suction knobs on ends provide the holding support. The disable can carry these along with them at any place where they might need support for movement.

Another advantageous product for the movement disable is the ramp. This is actually an inclined surface made of metal or very strong composites which can tolerate the weight of a disable person. Ramps help people to easily move up or down some place where there is a difference of height. These can come in different variants of height, incline and making materials. IF you are going to any place which is not disability friendly, meaning that it does not have sufficient provisions facilitating the access of people, ramps come very handy in these situations.
